It’s one of those “I’m sorry, but you’ve got to do your homework before you go out and play.” or “How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.” things. Hard work, thought, creativity, and preparation must precede the time in the studio; that great part where you get your music through the mic cables to the bits and bytes of your engineer’s studio software file of choice. Well, that’s the order of things for most of us anyway (those of us who have to watch their nickels, dimes, and dollars…well actually, their wads of $100 bills).

And so, I’m in the countdown to next Saturday the 25th’s rendezvous with a couple of players and an engineer at Sweetbriar Recording Studio in Nashville (that’s the iso booth doorway in the first picture above). And man there’s a ton to do before then. But if I do it right, the two days in studio will be fun, inspiring, productive, and well spent.

Now, where’d I put my coffee?
